How to merge patron records
Answer:
The preferred procedure is to change the user's privilege to BARRED, rather than to Merge (a function which is not available in Symphony) or REMOVE (removal of a user account also removes all statistics associated with that account). Prior to changing a User ID to BARRED, please follow this recommended procedure:
- Select the account the user wants to keep as their active library account; add a note to it reflecting the situation. Remember that accounts with Bills cannot be BARRED. Bills must be moved to the account being kept. Speak with Circulation if you have any questions.
- Make note of the items and due dates that are charged to the other user record(s).
- Discharge these items from the other user record(s).
- Charge these items to the permanent user record.
- Use the Modify Due Dates wizard from the Special group of wizards under the Circulation toolbar to change the due dates of the newly charged items to what they were originally.
