Question:

Fix RFID pad connection problems

Answer:

In order to better troubleshoot the problems with RFID pad connection, the Digital Services Department with the help of the Client Service Technicians came up with a list of tests that we would like performed each time a RFID pad disconnect occurs. Please test each scenario in the order listed if there is a problem with RFID pad connection stopping when the connection is restored.

If the problem is related to security tags not being marked as secured or unsecured please leave the items on the RFID pad a little longer. Bibliotheca suggest leaving items at least two seconds on the pad for best results.

Allow staffConnect link to fully load prior to opening WorkFlows. You should see your reader status window displayed in the right corner of your screen.

If your RFID workstation antenna is not responding or is giving warning or error messages, try the following steps:

Please note that the staffConnect link software and staffConnect conversion software cannot be running at the same time. These applications share resources and conflicts can occur.

Please try the following fixes in the order listed.

1. Check USB port:

  • Ensure that the USB is plugged directly into the PC, there should not be a hub in between the RFID USB and the computer port
  • Change the USB port
  • Check connection by placing an item on the pad

2. Check connections to the RFID reader

  • Close the staffConnect link software
  • Disconnect all the cables from the reader (cream colored box)
  • Reconnect all the cables
  • Re-launch staffConnect link software

3. Hard restart of the computer

  • Shut the computer completely down
  • Wait about 30 seconds
  • Turn the computer back on
