Libraries love to promote reading, learning, and literacy. There are a lot of authors in the San Antonio area, and many do wish to promote their works with an event at the library. Here are a few tips before you propose your event.

First, make sure the library owns your title. If they do not own it yet, please see the Question and Answer for “I am an author and would like to have my book considered for addition to the library’s collection. How do I do this?

Next, think carefully about what type of event your readers may be drawn to attend. For example, if you’ve written a diet book, then perhaps a lecture on nutrition or a tasting event would draw folks in for the talk with a signing afterward. If you’ve written a children’s book of poetry, then a family event with a reading could be best.

Last, type up all the information about your title and your program proposal and submit it to Ask mySAPL http://ask.mysapl.org/search.php. It will be forwarded to the appropriate library services manager.
