Since there is not a way to automate the placing of holds, there is not a way to automatically make the requester first on the holds list. However, if you include your email address with your request, we will send you a message once the item is added to our collection. The email will contain a link to our catalog, where you can place a hold.

Sending an automatically generated email is the fastest way to get word to you that your requested item has been added to the library's collection, and affords you the best chance to be at the top, or near the top of the holds list for the item. However, holds can accrue rapidly once an item appears in the catalog. This is particularly true of media items (such as DVDs and music CDs) and books by popular authors. Also, there are many instances in which there are multiple Suggest-a-Purchase requests for the same item.

Of course, email notification will work best for you if you check email on a regular basis. If you don't use email, call us at 210-207-2500, or stop by any location, and we will be happy to assist you with placing a hold.
